Embrace Nature

Our 50-acre mountain range set in the Blue Mountains, which rises to about 6,000 feet above sea level, shows off Portland’s lush vegetation, including towering trees and more than 500 species of flowering plants—is the perfect backdrop to such on-site activities as hiking, snorkeling, and swimming.

Guided hiking tours are led by descendants of the Maroons, escaped slaves who settled in these same mountain tops to evade recapture by British plantation owners.

Swim or snorkel in the fresh river water streams that are fed from the nearby Rio Grande River, or just marvel at the waterfalls that make Portland one of the most beautiful spots in Jamaica. Guided tours along the Rio Grande River in 25-30-foot bamboo rafts are an activity popularized by Errol Flynn and one of the most popular attractions for Portland visitors. Following any of these activities, you’re welcome to retreat to The Anton’s private beach located on the river to sunbathe and enjoy a lunch packed especially for you by our culinary staff. Delicacies could be a slow-roasted jerk pork sandwich with mango chutney and a side of roasted beets and arugula, followed by a course of fresh seasonal fruits.

Although the estate and accompanying grounds are designed to provide everything you desire, the town of Portland also has much to offer. It’s home to the world's most stunning natural treasures, like Frenchman's Cove, Nonsuch Falls, and the Blue Lagoon. The Anton partners with local businesses to arrange for hiking, boat rides to popular beaches and remote outer islands, and historical tours of the island.
